Birth & Embrace Communities Inc. is a non-profit organization created with the intentions of providing equity to birthing BIPOC and Black birth workers. We strive to help members of the community overcome racial, social, and reproductive injustices by providing information, resources, and services that expand the community, thus building its capacity to thrive.
Birth & Embrace Communities, Inc was founded by Kay'La Mumford, a black, Full Spectrum Holistic Doula out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Kay'La's passion and dedication to birth work and building community inspired her to develop an organization to help directly target the needs in the communities she serves. With unwavering focus, she used everything she learned from her experiences, observations, and research to fill in the gaps she saw in the birth world. Her efforts birthed the foundation of BECI and continue to broaden the reach of its mission every day.
Christine Mumford has a background in mental and physical health. She earned a B.S. in Science, majoring in Psychology and Pre-PA course work from Indiana University Southeast. She also worked as a medical assistant prior to joining BECI and continues to pursue education surrounding holistic approaches to health and spiritual knowledge. Christine manages the organization’s operations as well as provides the company with her intense passion for uplifting the community in whatever way she can.
Tasia Cooper started her Doula work in 2020 but supported birthing people long before she received her first birth Doula certification. Additionally, she is a licensed therapeutic masseuse who has tailored her abilities to accommodate pregnant people and infants. Tasia takes the time to analyze the needs of each individual client in order to create personalized massage services for everyone. Always keeping a holistic approach to therapy and healing in mind, she offers a special touch to every client’s experience ensuring they feel embraced and encouraged.
Dealing with the challenges of today requires true community leaders who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Birth & Embrace Communities, Inc emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support under marginalized communities with integrity as well as a desire to execute actions that speak louder than words. Established in 2020, we are an organization driven by passion, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. Please contact us to collaborate and help build community.
