Birth & Embrace Communities Inc. was created to provide equity to birthing BIPOC and Black birth workers . We strive to help people overcome racial, social, and reproductive injustice by providing information, resources, and services for community expansion.

Birth & Embrace Communities, Inc was founded by Kay'La Mumford, a black Full Spectrum Holistic Doula out of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Kay'La's Passion for birth work and building community inspired her to develop an organization to help target direct needs in the communities she serves.

Dealing with the challenges of today requires true community leaders who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Birth & Embrace Communities, Inc emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support under marginalized communities, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2020, we are an organization driven by passion, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. Please contact us to collaborate and help build community.

"Mumford's focus on the traditional contributions of BIPOC communities to doula work isn't just a brief overview; rather, it's infused into the tenor of the entire training.

Watts said Mumford's training feels more intimate than others — although modern medical needs are also emphasized, there's more of a feeling of camaraderie and sisterhood among doulas than in other training programs."
