Birth Beyond The Margins

BECI would like to announce our “Birthing Beyond the Margin Project” (BBMP), created with the purpose of improving maternal and infant life expectancy and quality of life in Milwaukee’s under-marginalized areas and surrounding cities’ African American communities.

We will be training trauma-informed, community-based doulas to bring equity in service and education to our BIPOC families who are expecting children. This project, funded by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, contributes to bridging the gap in maternal and prenatal healthcare by standing firmly on its four pillars that reflect the values held by BECI. These four pillars of BBMP include:

1) Providing community-based training to black doulas with extended trauma-informed care and continued education workshops. (may make into sentences)

2) Providing families with trauma-informed doulas

3) Providing families with perinatal and postpartum mental health support.

4) Providing families with educational workshops on childbirth education, breastfeeding, newborn preparedness, and COVID-19 preparedness.
